Pecan pie is wonderful, but it’s a whole project. This pecan pie dip gives you that same buttery, caramel pecan flavor in about half an hour, and nobody has to cut a slice.

There’s a creamy no-bake cheesecake dip on the bottom and a sticky stovetop pecan topping poured over it. It tastes like the filling of a pecan pie met a cheesecake. If you liked our cranberry cream cheese dip, this is its cozy fall cousin.

Set it out with a big pile of dippers at a holiday party and watch it disappear. It’s one of my favorite easy dessert dips for a crowd.

  • No oven, no crust, no slicing

  • 1/2 cup (120ml) cold heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the pecan pie topping:

  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup (100g) packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) light corn syrup

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

  • Cream cheese: Use the block, not the tub. Tub cream cheese has more water and makes a loose, runny base.
  • Heavy cream: Whipping it in makes the base light and fluffy. Whipped topping works as a shortcut, fold it in at the end instead.
  • Pecans: Toast them 5 minutes in a dry pan first if you have time. It makes the topping taste deeper and more like real pecan pie.

How to Make Pecan Pie Dip

Step 1: Make the Cream Cheese Layer

Beat the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla until totally smooth. Then pour in the cold cream and beat on high about 2 minutes until fluffy and thick. If you see little lumps, the cream cheese was too cold. Let it sit out longer next time, it should dent easily when you press it.

Step 2: Spread and Chill

Spread the cream cheese mixture into a 9-inch pie plate or shallow serving dish. Pop it in the fridge while you make the topping. A cold base keeps the warm topping from melting into it.

Step 3: Cook the Pecan Topping

Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar, corn syrup and salt. Bring it to a boil, stirring the whole time, and let it bubble for 1 to 2 minutes until it’s glossy and a little thicker. Don’t walk away, sugar scorches fast on the bottom of the pan.

Step 4: Add the Pecans and Cool

Take the pan off the heat and stir in the pecans and vanilla. Let it cool for about 10 minutes. This is the step people skip. Poured hot, the topping melts the cream cheese and you end up with a soupy mess instead of two layers.

Step 5: Pour Over the Base

Spoon the slightly cooled pecan topping over the cold cream cheese layer and spread it to the edges.

Step 6: Serve

Serve right away with dippers, or chill until party time. The topping firms up in the fridge, so let it sit out about 15 minutes before serving so it’s scoopable again.

Tips for the Best Pecan Pie Dip

  • Make the cream cheese layer the day before and keep it covered in the fridge. Make the topping right before the party.
  • If the topping gets too stiff in the pan, stir in 1 tbsp cream and warm it gently.
  • Sturdy dippers like graham crackers and pretzel crisps hold up better than thin wafers.
