Apple Pie

This classic homemade apple pie features a flaky, buttery crust and a perfectly spiced apple filling. It’s easy to make, full of warm cinnamon flavor, and perfect for holidays, family gatherings, or just a cozy night in.

Ingredients
  

For the Crust:
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter cold cut into cubes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 6-8 tbsp ice water
For the Filling:
  • 6-7 apples Granny Smith + Honeycrisp recommended
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp butter cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg beaten (for brushing the crust)

Method
 

Make the Pie Dough
  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt.
  2. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together.
  4. Divide into two discs, wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
Prepare the Apple Filling
  1. Peel, core, and slice apples.
  2. Toss them with sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch. Let sit for 10 minutes.
Assemble the Pie
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roll out one dough disc and place it in a 9-inch pie pan.
  3. Pour in apple filling and dot with butter.
  4. Roll out the second dough disc and place over the filling. Seal edges and cut slits for steam to escape.
  5. Brush the top with beaten egg.
Bake & Cool
  1. Place the pie on a baking sheet and bake for 50-60 minutes until golden brown.
  2. Let it cool for at least 2 hours before slicing.

Notes

  • Store: Keep at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
  • Reheat: Warm in a 350°F oven for 10-15 minutes.
  • Serve: Best enjoyed warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream!
