Ingredients

  • 1 box yellow cake mix 15.25 oz
  • 2 cups strawberry pie filling
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Pour strawberry pie filling into the dish and spread evenly to create the base layer.
  3. In a bowl, mix softened cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy with no lumps.
  4. Spoon the cream cheese mixture over the strawberry layer in small portions. Gently spread slightly, but do not mix into the strawberries.
  5. Evenly sprinkle the dry cake mix over the entire surface. Do not stir or press down.
  6. Slowly pour melted butter over the cake mix, trying to cover as much of the dry mix as possible.
  7. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the edges are bubbling.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool for 10 to 15 minutes before serving. This helps the dessert set and improves texture.

Notes

  • Do not mix layers after adding cake mix
  • Make sure butter covers most dry areas for best texture
  • Best served warm with ice cream or whipped cream
