Method
Step 1: Make the Dough
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- Add warm milk, melted butter, egg, and lemon zest. Stir to combine.
- Knead the dough for 8 minutes by hand or 5 minutes in a stand mixer until smooth and slightly sticky.
- Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Step 2: Prepare the Filling
- In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon zest.
- Roll out the dough into a 12x18-inch rectangle on a floured surface.
- Spread softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
Step 3: Roll & Slice
- Roll up the dough tightly from the long side.
- Cut into 12 equal slices and place them in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
Step 4: Bake
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
Step 5: Make the Glaze & Serve
- Whisk together powdered sugar, lemon juice, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth.
- Drizzle over warm cinnamon rolls and enjoy!
Notes
- Store: Keep in an airtight container at room temp for 2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
- Reheat: Microwave for 10-15 seconds or warm in the oven at 300°F for 5-10 minutes.
- Freeze: Wrap rolls individually and freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw and reheat before serving.
