Ingredients
  

For the Cake:
  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
For the Frosting:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 –6 tablespoons heavy cream

Method
 

Step 1: Prep the Pans
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or line them with parchment paper.
Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Step 3: Combine Wet Ingredients
  1. In another bowl, mix sugar, eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat until smooth and creamy.
Step 4: Blend and Add Water
  1. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients.
  2. Slowly stir in the boiling water until fully combined (batter will be thin).
