Method
Step 1: Prep the Pans
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or line them with parchment paper.
Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Step 3: Combine Wet Ingredients
- In another bowl, mix sugar, eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat until smooth and creamy.
Step 4: Blend and Add Water
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients.
- Slowly stir in the boiling water until fully combined (batter will be thin).
Step 5: Bake
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 6: Make the Frosting
- Beat softened butter until fluffy.
- Gradually mix in powdered sugar and cocoa powder, alternating with heavy cream.
- Stir in vanilla extract.
Step 7: Frost and Serve
- Spread frosting between the cooled cake layers and cover the top and sides.
- Slice, serve, and enjoy!
